Overview
It is an analog speech scrambling module. It doesn’t require a digital modem for transmission and can be used with the existing analog radios e.g. Motorola, Kenwood, ICOM etc. Scrambled signal occupies the same bandwidth as the original speech signal. This technique was widely used in the past and comprises a class of speech privacy devices with a level of security considered tactical. Although the security level is less that of digital encryption, however it excels in terms of being low cost, easy to integrate solution.
Functional Description
It is an analog speech scrambling module. It doesn’t require a digital modem for transmission and can be used with the existing analog radios e.g. Motorola, Kenwood, ICOM etc. Scrambled signal occupies the same bandwidth as the original speech signal. This technique was widely used in the past and comprises a class of speech privacy devices with a level of security considered tactical. Although the security level is less that of digital encryption, however it excels in terms of being low cost, easy to integrate solution. Here speech samples are manipulated directly. Permutation of sampled speech segments is performed in frequency, or time-frequency domain. Encrypted speech is then converted to analog form for transmission. Care is taken to reduce the power consumption (for prolonged battery based operation) and reduce the sensitivity to channel distortion (which may otherwise cause voice quality degradation and a reduction in communication range. Renzym has addresses these issues by advanced signal processing techniques in software and very low power design in hardware. Provisioning of programming and storing/selection of scrambling keys is supported via dedicated lines. Its dimensions are 85 mm x 58 mm (or 3.35” x 2.29”).
